What is a health and safety policy?

A health and safety policy outlines your overall approach to health and safety within your business or organisation and details how you will manage your health and safety at work.

Having adequate health and safety training in place such as risk management helps you to ensure you understand what is required.

If you are a in Britain the law states that every business must have a heath and safety policy and if you have 5+ employees it must be in a written format and shared with all employees alongside any changes that are made to it.

The Health and safety executive advise that your health and safety policy should address 3 key areas:

  1. Statement of intent

  2. Responsibilities for health and safety

  3. Arrangements for health and safety
